INNOVATION, RESEARCH, EDUCATION

BCThubs project aspires to build R&I capacities in the Blue Economy sector of the participating Widening countries, focusing on Blue Culture Technologies (BCT) that support the Underwater Cultural Heritage scientific research and tourism valorization. This initiative not only aims to enhance the scientific understanding and preservation of underwater cultural sites, but it also seeks to foster sustainable tourism practices that respect these valuable resources. By engaging local communities and stakeholders, the project encourages collaboration and knowledge exchange, creating a robust ecosystem that promotes the sustainable development of the Blue Economy while fostering a deep appreciation for cultural heritage. Furthermore, it paves the way for innovative approaches to research and technology that will ultimately benefit both the economy and society.

OUR BELIEFS

Although European seas are rich in UWCH sites, few are sustainably exploited for social welfare and growth. BCThubs aims to foster BCT Excellence Hubs that provide innovative solutions for the sustainable protection and management of UWCH. Each Hub connects actors from Blue Culture and UWCH—researchers, businesses, public sector, and societal stakeholders—enhancing their effectiveness in promoting a sustainable Blue Economy. While regionally scoped, the Hubs will collaborate across borders on strategic goals and value chains aligned with RIS3 and EU policies, including the Green Deal. The project’s broader ambition is to establish an EU-wide BCT Cluster to formalize connections among the hubs post-project.
